Jerry Brown

Although he had originally planned to become an artist, Jerry graduated from Washington University with an engineering degree. Moving to Huntsville in 1960, he has stayed in touch with his artistic leanings by studying with local artists such as Kathryn Vaughn and Jack Dempsey and since his retirement in 1994 has studied painting at UAH with Mark Marchlinski, Andrew Winn, Blu Smith, and Jill Johnson. Attending the Cape Cod School of Art in 1997 greatly influenced his approach to painting in the Impressionistic style. Winter Sun.jpg (24671 bytes)
White House 5.jpg (47244 bytes) Jerry has always been attracted to both the French Impressionists and Post-impressionist, and has pursued these avenues in his contemporary paintings. To achieve these goals he has relied on loose application of paint, the use of broken or soften edges, a reduced emphasis on details and local color, a heightened sensitivity to simultaneous contrast, optical mixtures and vibrant colors. He has also produced straight “realistic” works and has developed a unique faceted painting style that has brought him notice. He has exhibited at many of the galleries in the Tennessee Valley area and was accepted in the Red Clay Survey in 2000.
