M.J. Montgomery, Watercolorist and Photographer

Award winning, published watercolor artist and photographer, M.J. (Martha) Montgomery began painting with watercolors in 1991. Montgomery was accepted into the Huntsville Art League (HAL) as an exhibiting artist in July of 2004. Chuck Long, internationally known artist, author and teacher of Huntsville, Alabama became her instructor in 2005.  In addition to exhibiting at the HAL Gallery and others, Montgomery continues to paint commissioned pieces.   image002.jpg (85455 bytes)

Interest in photography came as a result of collecting material to use as a resource for her artwork. Friends and acquaintances began to request copies of photographs and Martha could not keep up with producing paintings as quickly as she took photographs. Pictures of wildlife have become a specialty and MJ relishes an opportunity to sit quietly in remote settings waiting for the perfect shot.

Montgomery’s work reflects her scientific and logical thinking as she tends to paint in a realistic and tight style. She particularly enjoys painting structures, landscapes, dogs and other creatures. She continually collects material as she works in her garden and trains her obedience and agility dogs. image010.jpg (71404 bytes)

Favorite Quote:” To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by an healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded” Ralph Waldo Emerson
