Limelight Exhibit: February 2007-    Caroline Wang

The Huntsville Art League will host a Limelight show, “A New Look for Asian Art” in February 2007, featuring local watercolor artist Caroline Wang. This exhibit displays origninal works that incorporate modern art design and materials into Traditional Asian watercolor. Caroline Wang has been working with a fresh mindset when it comes to blending Asian and Western artistic traditions.

She incorporates the beauty of the simplicity of Asian art and the feeling of freedom of Western art and uses the Asian brush stroke to create a “New Look for Asian Art.” She has an online gallery which displays most of her recent art works at  www.cwanggallery.com

Caroline thinks that the challenge in Asian art is the brush stroke and the design composition, while the challenge in Western art is the creativity and the use of materials.

The beauty of the Asian art is its simplicity, harmony, and lack of clutter; and the beauty of the Western art is the freedom of creation. The most fun thing about art is that there is no limit.

Caroline will deliver two art lessons this year at HAL. One in the spring (April and May) for basic Oriental art techniques and calligraphy, and another one in the fall (September, October), applying the oriental art techniques to western watercolor.

This exhibit contains a collection of Wang’s work that is influenced by both Asian and Western culture.

Her reception will be Sunday, February 11th
from 1 – 4 pm.
