Limelight Exhibit: April 2007- Glennis O. Black |
| Glennis Black, a gifted artist, brings to her work a unique blend of her life experiences and natural abilities. While Glennis is an educator, having her masters degree in education and teaching at the Limestone County Career Technical Center, her artistic talents extend far beyond her vocation to include sculpture and oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings. Her current medium of choice is oil, and her subjects range from her beloved countryside, still life and portraits. Her art is collected as far away as Russia & Australia, and more close-to-home areas here in the United States. | ![]() |

Primarily a self-taught artist, Glennis believes that her abilities are God-given, although she has enhanced her natural creativity and skills with personal study, with independent specialized instructions from artists in Alabama and Florida, and with local watercolor & oil classes in Huntsville & Athens area. Much of her work reflects her values, and Glennis delights in bringing pleasure to family and friends through her art. |
| Growing up on the family farm in Killingsworth Cove, a community near Gurley, Alabama, provided Glennis with an enriched childhood where family, hard work and God were the staples of everyday life. Her childhood was very special in that she was influenced by many rich cultural experiences. Born to Bobby and Dorothy Baugh Osmer, the second of four children, Glennis in her young life milked cows, made butter, sewed her own clothes and worked in the family garden. Living in the country, Glennis and her family were essentially self-sufficient, much like earlier generations of farm families. During these years, Glenniss creative spirit was nurtured by the very practical arts of knitting, quilting, macramé, cross-stitch and needlepoint.Today, Glennis draws from this unique childhood in her works. | ![]() |
