Limelight
Exhibit: March 2009- Caroling Wang
Reception at HAL, March 15, 2009, 2-4PM |

|
Caroline Wang presents a Tour Around The World in
watercolors inspired by her travels to the Far East and Europe over the past several
years. She employs Asian brush strokes and techniques into western watercolors on all the
international landscapes. |
| Caroline Wang is a NASA engineer and researcher. She also
has a passion for art. She studied Art at the University of Minnesota and received a
Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. By combining these
two disciplines, she believes any successful design comes from both knowledge and
creativity. Therefore, art makes a good foundation for engineers, scientists, or other
professionals. |

Caroline Wang has been working with a fresh mindset when it
comes to blending Asian and Western artistic traditions. She incorporates the beauty of
the simplicity in Asian art with the feeling of freedom in Western art. She teaches others
how to apply these techniques to their work. Caroline employs traditional Asian
techniques, such as minimal brush work and calligraphy strokes, with freedom of design and
the usage of different materials, synthesizing artistic tradition from both Asia and the
West. The challenge of Asian art is the brush stroke and the design composition; while the
challenge in Western art is the creativity and the use of material. Caroline Wang feels that the key elements of creating the most exciting art
works are: |
| 1) Perfecting technique and skills. All work requires
skill; there is no shortcut. Therefore, learning and practicing techniques and skills are
necessary. 2) Passion for the subject. The
artist has to be very familiar and interested in the subject that he/she selects.
3) Be able to capture the Expression as it is
the soul of artwork. A beautiful art work will not come alive until the artist adds
expression into it. |
