HAL provides educational programs and instruction for children and adults, sponsors workshops with prominent visiting artists, conducts demonstrations in various media, and hosts special exhibitions.  HAL strives to provide a congenial and stimulating environment for nurturing visual literacy and expression.

LATE BREAKING CLASS CHANGES:

From Spring Schedule---SA-5/OIL PAINTING:STILL LIFE - Gabrielle Dempsey             
Students are taught the basic approach to classical oil painting, including underpainting and glazing, lean-into-fat, and side-by-side during this class.  An introduction to alla prima painting will also be included in these sessions.  A supply list is available at HAL.

 Drawing Shape Up- Lunch & Draw- Part 1
Ann Steverson


Drawing for the absolute beginner. Bring a light lunch and learn basic drawing techniques in a relaxed atmosphere. This class will cover fundamental pencil and charcoal drawing of simple shapes and forms, shading, values, grid method, and other simple tricks to improve observation and drawing skills. Materials (pencil, charcoal, erasers and paper) will be provided, but students are encouraged to purchase a sketchbook or binder for “homework” practice. Appropriate for beginner students ages 12-102. Anyone can learn to draw, and that means you can too!

About the Artist:  Ann Moeller Steverson is an oil painter. A native of Madison, Alabama, Ann began painting in oils at the University of Montevallo in 1999. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, completing a B.A. with a Fine Arts Concentration. Ann then acquired a Masters of Art Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama. She taught fine art in the local school system for 5 years, before becoming a full time artist and mother.  Her work is currently on display in her studio space at HAL Gallery.
