The Huntsville Art League (HAL) s a cooperative, non-profit organization, operated through the volunteer efforts of its members and friends.  HAL’s purpose is to cultivate Visual art and artists in the Tennessee Valley.
This is accomplished through exhibitions, education, and community outreach.  HAL receives no Federal, State, or local tax dollars, but operates solely on the support of its members, sales of its exhibiting artists, and the generosity of the local community.
HAL maintains classrooms, studio space and galleries for the exhibition and sale of art work by members, ongoing Exhibitors, and visiting artists.
HAL provides educational programs and instruction for children and adults, sponsors workshops with prominent visiting artists, conducts demonstrations in various media, and hosts special exhibitions.  HAL strives to provide a congenial and stimulating environment for nurturing visual literacy and expression
Since its founding in 1957, HAL has been a primary source of representation and support for local artists.  For many years the organization was dedicated to the formation of a permanent Museum of Art in Huntsville, and for that purpose assumed the name Huntsville Art League and Museum Association (HALMA)
During that time, in cooperation with The Arts Council, the funding mechanisms and community support for the new institution were formed, leading to the rapid development of the Huntsville Museum of Art, our acclaimed and successful sister institution.
Over the years, HAL has pioneered much of the visual art activity in the region, and has maintained close ties with college and university art departments. Additionally, HAL has assumed the role of a regional Visual Art Center, serving the visual art interests of all citizens of the Tennessee Valley.  HAL takes great pride in its atmosphere of warmth and cooperation.
HAL's gallery is packed with a wonderful display of all sorts of artwork You will find pictures in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and mixed media; photography; notecards, original jewelry, sculptures, glasswork, gourds, pottery, metalwork, hand-painted silk items, weavings, the occasional wood piece, and who knows what other original creations!
These are all created by our local Tennessee Valley artists. Take a look at a few of our offerings here, and then come by the Gallery to see them in person!  Almost all items at the Gallery are for sale.
